During the past few years state funding for the trails and Pathways Program has been drastically reduced from $950,000 to just $30,000, making it very difficult to develop the trail network infrastructure so important to Utah. We need your help to restore $500,000 in funding for this important program.
A National Trails Day service project will be hosted by the Utah Conservation Corps on June 4th, 2005 8:30am. Volunteers should meet at Logan's First Dam Park. Volunteers will complete trail maintenance and other conservation projects. Please bring work pants, hiking boots, water, and gloves. Tools and some refreshments will be provided.
Volunteers can call the Utah Conservation Corps (435-797-0964) for more information.

A Trail to Connect Downtown to the University Logan City Council is in the process of approving the construction of a new “dugway” that also includes the design for the Boulevard’s permanent traffic flow changes (click map at right to enlarge). With this road comes the opportunity to create a trail system that will connect historic downtown Logan to Utah State University. The trail will begin at Center Street and 200 East and run alongside the canal, to 400 East (the Crocket Avenue Canal Company has voiced support for the project). Then it will head up the bluff and run along the Boulevard Parkway too 600 East. At this point it will hopefully go through a tunnel under the new Dugway. Otherwise it will cross the Boulevard where pedestrians and cyclists can head up 400 N. to the existing underpass to access USU.
The idea for this trail is not new. It is currently included in the Logan City Parks and Recreation Trail Master Plan and the proposed Logan City General Plan Update. What is new is that a significant portion of the trail corridor is planned for reconstruction, thus presenting the ideal opportunity for the city to implement an important part of their trail plan.
Go to the Parks and Recreation open house Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at 295 N 100 W. While you’re there, let them know that a trail from downtown to USU with few road crossings should be a department priority. If you can't attend, fill out the below comment form and email it to sharenh@grassligroup.com by March 31.
The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation has verbally approved a Grant to help fund the Blacksmith Fork Trail Construction Project.
The 1.7 mile proposed trail has already begun to generate much enthusiasm and anticipation from citizens of Hyrum City as well as other surrounding municipalities throughout Cache Valley. The proposed trail-head intersects with two other existing trails and has the potential for so many diverse activity groups to benefit.
